Nidaros Ukraine
DELIVERING LIFE SAVING FOOD, SHELTER AND PROTECTION TO UKRAINIAN REFUGEES.
The Russian war against Ukraine has catalyzed large scale humanitarian crises across the region. Children and families continue to be exiled, traumatized and even killed by the violence. As of June 2022, over 7 million people have been internally displaced within Ukraine and more than 5 million Ukrainian refugees forced to migrate across Europe. For most, conflict and forced migration poses threats to the ability of families to remain together, as well as negative impacts on nutrition, economic well being, security, housing, education and healthcare. For many, the very acts of migration and resettlement heighten their risk of exploitation and vulnerability to trafficking.
The poorest Ukrainians often arrive to Nidaros with nothing more than the few possessions they can carry. Most often they are mothers with children as their husbands and fathers remain in Ukraine fighting for the survival of that sovereign nation. For many, access to housing and basic services like food and clothing are essential first steps to longer term stability.
The Nidaros Foundation, based in Krakow, Poland, is a known and trusted non-profit amongst the Ukrainian refugee community enabling them to reach those most vulnerable and in need of service through closely connected community networks. Most of the refugees served learn of Nidaros through word of mouth from fellow refugees who trust and verify the organization.
